Installing a Wolf Built-in Steamer

We received an enquiry from a plumber questioning how to connect up the drain at the base of the steamer to a sink waste.

The essential part of this kind of installation is to ensure that contaminated water can never enter the steamer bowl.  Plumbing regulations have been established to ensure this never happens.

The drain from the base of the steamer should go into a tundish.  A tundish is like a funnel.  The steamer drain sits above the lip of the tundish creating an air gap between the two.  Hence should the waste ever block up it is impossible for any water to move up into the steamer bowl.

A convenient way for a plumber to achieve this is to reverse a pipe reducer to form the funnel.  The size from the base of the steamer is 16mm and a heavy-duty hose which can resist up to 90deg would be appropriate.
